The Development of the Broker Profession in Dubai
Many are wondering — what career is the best in real estate in Dubai? But not too long time ago, this profession didn’t exist here at all. Brokers became in demand in the UAE, particulary in Dubai literally 20-30 years ago. During this time the country decided to open the real estate market to foreign investors. Until the early 2000s, foreigners had no chance of buying property here virtually.
The Development of the Broker Profession in Dubai
Inception - 90s
The active development of Dubai's infrastructure and the construction of new projects, now are known worldwide, since the mid-90s. There were no foreign investments, and the question "where to take real estate courses in Dubai?" never crossed anyone's mind.
2002 year
Everything changed in 2002 when the law allowing foreigners to buy property in designated areas (Freehold Zones) was passed. This attracted a wave of foreign investors and created the foundation for a new profession – real estate broker, as foreign buyers needed the services of intermediaries.
2007 year
The next step was the establishment of standards and the creation of regulatory bodies to oversee transactions. In 2007, the Dubai Land Department (DLD) and the Real Estate Regulatory Agency (RERA) were founded. They set standards for both transactions and the brokers handling them. From that point, all real estate brokers were required to obtain a special RERA license, helping to enhance professionalism and transparency in the real estate market.
